Melsom & Melsom its Whaler “NORTREFF” with shooter Johan Antonsen. Trapped for Kokeriet “Norhval”. This is one of the two greatest catchers which was built in Norway. Along with Ross Sea “Star I” was the most powerful catchers in the Norwegian whaling fleet. The need for larger and more powerful catchers occurred because the whale population was so decimated that the boats had to farther and farther away from these ships to whaling. Both boats were easy to recognize on the front A-mast.
The boat was rented to Thor Dahl Thor Sea Expedition 1962-67, Gunner was Find Ellefsen who had previously worked for Hector Whaling Balaena expedition..
1970 diaper she converted to snurper.
2013 she was condemned.
