Her ligger hvalbåter på rekke og rad lagt opp utenfor det gamle stasjonsområdet i Leith. Om noen kan identifisere noen av dem er det bare å skrive i kommentarfeltet.

Dear Sir:
This is a very interesting photograph of «late 1950» , I think near 1960. The whaling fleet of Salvesen was made mostly with boats built by Smith Dock Co.Ltd. Mdb. but in this photograph there are three w.c. built by Kaldnes, that have a tipical rake of stem.
My guess from left to right:
SISTRA ex GosIX Kalnes 1937 365 t (sister to Sigfra and Simbra tragically lost 1947
SONDRA Smith’s Dock C.L. 1937 433 t
SOUTHERN MAIN ex Empire Janus ex Jan Mayen (kriegsmarine vorpostenboot) Kaldnes 1945 570 t (good photographs in Shetland Museum
SIGFRA Kaldnes 1937 356 t
SOUTHERN XXX Smith’s D.C.L. I think whalers of 1945 to 48 with names begining with W S F ex. Wheeler , Sailor, Foster
SOUTHERN XXX same , it’s dificult because they built 2 3 or 4 of the same model
SOBKRA Smith’s D.C.L. 1937 444 t
There are 4 whalers original from Salvesen and only 3 whalers Southern , the last three post 1945.
I hope you can confirm my guess, the process and the details to identified each one was much interesting.
Thanks for mantaining this site, is a wonderful site.
Greetings, yours faithfully

Next to SOBKRA, with the number 7 on her, is SOUTHERN ACTOR
At last I think, we completed the puzzle :
the two SOUTHERN xxx have their name: ACTOR Nº7 (thanks Aris) and found a photo in http://www.lardex.net/hvalstasjonene/Grytvika/galleri2/hvalbaat.jpg of SOUTHERN ANGLER Nº 9
I think the ships in the photo from left to right are :
SISTRA ,SONDRA, SOUTHERN MAIN ( Nº17 ?), SIGFRA ( Nº 11), SOUTHERN ANGLER ( Nº 9), SOUTHERN ACTOR ( Nº 7) and SOBKRA ( X ) probably «buoy boat».
Greetings and best wishes and happy Christmas and New Year, hopin the end of the pandemia.
